Suzanne Nixon and Greg White
Co-founders & Program Leaders
Suzanne is a licensed professional counselor (VA), licensed marriage & family therapist (VA), certified body therapist and integrative health coach. She has been in the field of education, counseling, psychology, bodywork and health and wellness for over thirty years.
She has an eclectic approach to counseling and is able to use the counseling approach that “fits” the needs and situation of the client. Suzanne incorporates theories and practices from the field of humanistic, psychodynamic, relational, mindbody and transpersonal psychology. She has recently earned her certification as an IFS (Internal Family Systems Therapist). With her expertise in mindbody philosophy and mindfulness techniques, Suzanne is known for her contemporary, body-centered approach to psychotherapy. Suzanne is passionate about exploring avenues for creating health, well-being and a balanced lifestyle. New to her counseling repertoire is the unique and innovative, Walk & Talk Therapy. Prior to earning her doctorate in counseling, Suzanne practiced for twelve years as a certified massage therapist and energy medicine practitioner. Ahead of her time, Suzanne specialized in helping individuals make positive gains in restoring physical and psychological health, and worked in the area of body image, self-esteem and body trauma. With a keen passion in positive psychology and well-being she completed her training as an Integrative Health Coach at Duke University’s Integrative Medicine Center. Complementing her counseling practice, she offers wellness coaching and health & wellness seminars. Suzanne is an avid cyclist, newly trained spin instructor, fitness enthusiast, meditator, traveler, mother of two adult children, and newly “gigi”….Italian for grandmother!…of twin baby girls!
Greg is both a social and clinical psychologist, California licensed (PSY8099), with a wide variety of experience in both in academic and practice settings. He is currently Professor of Psychology at National University where he leads a regional training program for Marriage and Family therapists. His private practice is grounded in Cognitive, Jungian and Buddhist psychologies. Formerly Chair of Behavioural Sciences at the University of Auckland Medical School, Chief of Psychology for Shasta Mental Health and Head Psychologist at the Institute of Corporate Health in New Zealand, he has worked with a variety of wellness training forms and practiced and taught clinical health psychology. He has given hundreds of presentations and workshops on wellness, meditation, and stress management to employees, executives, medical students, doctors, and psychotherapists. He has over 35 years personal experience in practice of a variety of meditation forms; over 20 years experience in the men’s movement, storytelling and leading healing ritual; over 10 years experience co-leading weekly meditation groups. He has published over 35 peer-reviewed scientific research articles and over 30 scientific conference presentations on mindfulness, emotion, romantic relationships, group process, jealousy, problem-solving through dream techniques, and correlates of meaningful dreams. He enjoys backpacking, kayaking, and Mediterranean gardening. Married 30+ years to a wonderful woman, they have two adult sons.
