When we think about health and wellness, we typically think about our individual well-being. New Year goals are a perfect example: “I will exercise more.”; I will lose weight.”; I will learn strategies for managing my stress levels.”
How can the holidays be here? Wasn’t it just yesterday we were helping our kids with their Halloween costumes or gearing up for a robust 4th quarter? We know the winter holidays arrive the same time each year, yet our perception of time begs to differ. It is just the beginning of December and we are already gasping for oxygen. With much to do and little time to do it, stress sets in.
In November I was delighted to be interviewed by a fellow alumni of Duke University's Integrative Health Coaching Program, Nancy Watson, for the Alumni Newsletter. I have a deep seated passion for educating people about holistic health and wellness and empowering them to make the personal changes in their life as to facilitate healing and greater well-being. I am grateful to Nancy for giving me this opportunity to share my unique method of Integrative Health Coaching. Thank you! Suzanne
My first “Inspired Travel Adventure” occurred when I was 25. Still to this day it stands out as one of the most significant experiences of my life. I was experiencing an early onset of a mid-life crisis, and desperately needed to find a place of refuge. Where could I go to clear my mind, untangle my emotions, release physical tension and “regroup”?
I am firm believer that one of the best gifts we can give our children are "adventurous experiences". As a young woman, weight was never an issue for me. Yet, like most women, pregnancy and childbirth, family life, time constraints, stress and of course hormones began influencing my weight. Petite, standing at 5’2”, my weight began roller coastering. Over a 40 year span my dress size would range from an 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8, with a weight gain fluctuation of 25 pounds……a significant amount if you are 5’2”.
Last Sunday evening CNN aired the documentary, Escape From Fire, a winner of several 2012 film festival awards. It is a powerful movie focusing on the brokenness of the American healthcare system, and emphasizes the fact that our medical industry is designed for “quick fixes rather than prevention” and is “profit-driven” rather than providing “patient-driven care”.
Sandra Chaloux, Founder and Publisher of the Wellness Hub, Virginia, recently asked me if I would share my personal journey with Lyme disease. I was happy to share my story, for I, like many people, had a very challenging time getting diagnosed and finding qualified physicians and holistic healthcare providers to help me heal and be well.
The “creation story” of Inspirational Journeys, LLC, began with a shared vision between me and my friend and colleague of thirty-five years, Greg White. Four of us were hiking the Boynton Canyon, a trail with rich earth colors, scenic vistas and adjacent to the spectacular and renowned Enchantment Resort in Sedona.
