What’s included in the price at resort facilities?

Trips are designed to be all – inclusive. Double occupancy rooms with an in-suite private bath, resort toiletries, spa bathrobe, water bottle, resort cloth backpack, room taxes and resort fees/  three meals a day on all full program days/ Wednesday dinner on arrival day/  Sunday breakfast and lunch on departure day/ meal gratuities/ fresh fruit snacks daily/ use of the resort grounds, fitness gym, indoor and outdoor pool, Jacuzzi/    professional credentialed and experienced leaders with first aid training/  daily hikes with vehicle transportation to hikes, state or national park entrance, permit, and parking fees/ detailed pre-departure information/ educational wellness program with written handouts, daily meditations, daily hikes, and transportation to hikes.

What’s not included?

Air and land transportation to and from resort/ room and portage gratuities/  fitness classes/  special resort programs/  spa services/  alcoholic beverages/  snacks at the café/  pre and post trip accommodations/  personal travel and medical insurance/  items of a personal nature.

What are the hiking distances and levels?

Hikes vary from 2 to5 miles and are easy to moderate in difficulty. Terrain is on dirt paths, sand, large rocks and asphalt pavement (to and from park/path entrances). Elevation is low to moderate.  Our hikes are not strenuous–they offer the settings for some of the wellness skills training such as mindfulness, walking meditation, stillness, and body awareness.

Do I have to participate in the hiking?

This is a wellness-hiking program and we encourage all individuals to participate on the hikes as a member of the temporary learning community. Exceptions are made due to unexpected illness.

Do I have to participate in the educational program?

Yes, we expect all participants to partake in the educational programs as part of our temporary learning community.  In a learning community, members learn from each other’s experiences as well as from the leaders.  There is personal time on all days for whatever else you may want to participate in.

What is the minimum age?

These are adult trips with 21 being the minimum age.

Do I have to be in good shape?

Individuals should be in “average condition”, meaning, able to walk a 20-minute mile, be able to walk/hike for 2-3 hours with a ten-minute rest stop each hour.

Do I need any special equipment for hiking?

You need a quality pair of hiking shoes/boots, quality socks, hiking pants or shorts, and a sunhat. You may want to bring hiking poles, although they are not necessary for the majority of the hikes. We recommend that you bring your own day pack.

Can you accommodate special diets?

If you have a special dietary need, please let us know at the time of registration. We can work with the chef at the resort to accommodate your needs. Most special dietary needs can be accommodated. This includes yet is not limited to:  allergies to gluten, dairy products, nuts, and sugar; and vegan and vegetarian diets.

How large are your groups?

We guarantee an intimate experience with personal attention, and moderate flexibility.  Our experience is that group  size of 14-18 is optimal for our activities.

What about single and solo travelers?

Many and most guests travel on their own. Guests are matched up with a suitable single traveler, predominately based on gender and age.  Solo travelers have the option of paying a single supplement for a private room throughout the trip. However, this must be requested at the time of registration, in order to secure the additional room with the resort.

Can I arrive earlier, or stay longer?

Yes. All pre and post program stays must be made on your own with the resort. In most instances, we are able to receive a good rate for our program quests on pre and post stays?

Can my spouse or partner come to the resort, yet not participate in the program?

Yes, your spouse/partner can stay at the resort, however, their trip must be arranged separately through the resort spa. However, they may not participate in any of our group meals, hikes/program, etc.

How much time to I have to spend on my own?

Our program begins in the morning and continues through lunch. Guests have free time after lunch (2:00) till dinner time (5:45). The evening program ends between 9:00 – 9:30 pm.

How far in advance do I need to make my reservation?

You will be able to secure participation in the program of your choice, the farther in advance you register.  There are discounts for earlier registration.  However, there are times when we can accommodate last minute guest registrations.

Can I get personal travel and medical insurance through you?

No. You must arrange for travel/medical insurance through your own travel agency or from a private vendor.

Is it easy to get to the resorts?

The resorts were use are generally within two hours of a major airport, and all are located near cities with minor airports.  You can decide if you want to fly in to a major airport and rent a car to reach the destination spa, or fly in to the local airport and taxi to the destination spa.  Weekend wellness programs are located within the state of Virginia and within the Bay Area of San Francisco, CA.

Can I request a special program trip for a group?

Yes, we are able to arrange and customize a program for your group. We need at least three months in advance to customize your program. We work closely with you to accommodate your group’s needs, interests, and wellness learning goals.
